Boat Redux

Hey guys, I told Kevin that I feel responsible for the boat design and he gave me the go-ahead. This is what I'm thinking of for the new boat, I know they could use some more pushing but I'm just trying to find a direction first. Personally I like #03 the most but I want to hear your thoughts.

  1. So Emily and I were thinking 4 and 8 looked ok, but right now they are looking too realistic. The ideas are getting there but they aren't quite feeling like Nick. Try looking at smaller river boats. They are kind of sassy but built for business. Keep working on it if you like; you're going in the right direction. Look at Nickelodeon images for props and backgrounds for pushing the shape language. We can look at them from the blog tomorrow, and any others. Check out Lauren Zurch's and Jayson's model. And we can go over stuff with kevin tomorrow.

  2. As long as you talked to Eryn about it. I'm fine with handing you off the design. She's the modeler, she knows what's best for her.

But i do have to agree with Eryn. Ur shapes are becoming repetitive. Look at the image from the blog..u'll see how they all read the same. A big square in the back with a long front shape. The only one that is a bit different is 1. I'm not referring to objects within the boat. But the silhouette of the boat.

Remember to always go back to the style guide. We're drifting off course into our own style...not nickelodeon. I see no hard/sharp curve vs straights. i see a realistic boat. IE. the railing or the tires on the boat..even the fence. Make sure they have some dynamic shape into them. PUSH the objects around.

A good way to work is to find one boat u have interest in..and PUSH it. Simple questions like "what if" while ur doing that boat will make it go way further than a generic looking boat.

Again, i hate to be repetitive but go back to the character style guide. Reread what cory had to say. We need to go back to square one if we want things to start looking like it belongs to nick.

  3. Right, I agree and understand. My idea with the boat is that it has to fit certain parameters, (being able to hold about seven or eight people, being low enough for LeBlanc to be able to pick a bird feather out of the water, having some room for staging a shot) so it can work with Angie's boards. But I will definitely push the shapes into more straights/curves and hopefully it won't feel out of place.
